Dear VASPA Members and Friends,

This announcement contains two important items of information seeking your study and response.

The first item is a request from Dr. Bill Bosher and the Virginia State Action for Education Leadership Project (SAELP) to assist them with the development of a professional development resource catalog for school leaders. One of the objectives for the creation of the catalog is to assist school divisions in structuring leadership development around the leadership performance standards and moving more effectively toward increasing student achievement through appropriate leader behaviors. The links that follow include a letter from Dr. Bosher, the RFP, and the Standards for the Institute for Educational Leadership. Please note that the date stipulated for the submission of the RFP is a "floating date" and any RFP returned by the end of August will be reviewed.

The second item is a request by the VASPA Executive Committee asking you to please review the following updated Proposed Licensure Regulations and send to the Executive Committee a clear and documented description of any serious concerns you may have about any of them. We have been informed by several members that despite the feedback provided at the November Conference when this topic was first broached by VDOE,or the further discussions members had with VDOE officials or the e-mails that were sent expressing concerns about the proposals, such registered concerns have gone largely, if not totally, unacknowledged. From your response to this request, we will be able to determine the extent and significance of these complaints and decide what immediate action may be required to address them. Please send your clearly described and documented concerns to vaspa@teachinamerica.net by August 25, 2005

The above link of the updated proposed regulations was provided by the CEO of JECS, Paul Joseph, whose business is to study, interpret and explain new licensure regulations. If you would like more specific information on this topic, please go to the JECS Website at http://www.josephedservices.com/notes_updates.asp.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Steve Sailer at wssels@msn.com or by calling 804-561-5719.

Thank you very much for your attention to these requests.
